Marcia V. Prowell, P.E.—President and owner of AMS. Marcia has a B.S. and M.S from Virginia Tech in Civil Engineering. She is a registered professional engineer in Alabama and Virginia. She has a broad range of consulting experience in geotechnical engineering including: shallow foundations, deep foundations, retaining structures, and embankment design. Marcia provides the overall management of AMS, including contract management and negotiation, billing, employee management, and financial reporting.
Brian D. Prowell, Ph.D., P.E. - Principal Engineer. Brian has a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Auburn University, respectively. He is a registered professional engineer in Oregon, South Carolina and Virginia. Prior to joining AMS, Brian was an Assistant Director for the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) and Senior Research Scientist for Virginia DOT. Brian has a wide range of experience in asphalt and concrete materials, construction, pavement design, research, and training.
Graham C. Hurley, P.E. - Project Engineer. Graham has a B.S. and M.S in Civil Engineering from Auburn University. He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama. Prior to joining AMS, Graham was a Research Engineer for NCAT. He has extensive experience in HMA mix design, quality assurance testing and inspection, and warm mix asphalt. In addition to his engineering duties, Graham manages AMS’ laboratory and AASHTO Resource Accreditation. Graham is an Alabama DOT certified Level III asphalt mix designer.
Robert D. Harrington – Paving Consultant. Bob has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University. Bob has over 40 years of experience in asphalt paving, first as a Senior Engineer/Estimator for Barrett Paving and for the last fifteen plus years as a consultant specializing in racetrack pavement design and construction. Bob has worked for a number of high profile clients, including: NASCAR, International Speedway Corporation and the Penske Automotive Group.
E. Ray Brown, Ph.D., P.E. – Consulting Engineer. Ray has a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M. He is a registered engineer in Mississippi. Prior to joining AMS, Ray worked for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineer’s Engineering and Research Development Center and was Director of NCAT for 23 years. He has over 40 years of experience in laboratory testing, design, construction, and performance evaluation of asphalt pavements.
